The Making of the Palm Collection

The Making of the Palm Collection

The Palm Collection is inspired by our visits to botanical gardens, and the abundance and variation of plants that thrive in these jungle-like oases.

To create the Palm Collection we developed a process rooted in the practices of life drawing and Plein Air painting. We worked with an immediacy, using simple graphite lines to capture the natural shapes and characteristics of  the plants we selected as “models.” We then layered these silhouettes, using directional pencil marks to communicate the sense of physical depth you get when looking up at a lush canopy. The result is a series of frond-like patterns that intermingle branches with shadow and sun, expressing the refreshing feeling of walking through a leafy garden.

The Palm Collection is inspired by the artistry found in leaves and flowers, whose decorative qualities seem to eclipse their function and exist purely for the sake of pleasure and beauty.
